The word “stellar” means relating to or made of stars. The word “interstellar”
means between stars. The vast space between stars is not completely empty but
contains very rarified gas as well as tiny solid particles which we call interstellar
dust. This dust can dim our views of distant stars and even block out regions
where clouds of dust are forming stars. These dust grains are made of most of
the chemical elements that make up the Earth and the people living on it. These
elements are created in stars, ejected from dying stars and are used to form new
generations of stars and planets. From dust to dust!
