These “Light-hearted laments” were inspired by the playful but thought-provoking writing of my friend and frequent collaborator, Janet Windeler Ryan. Sing on the Porch was definitely the inspiration for the set, and Janet was generous in allowing me to pick
the other two poems from her amazing collection. Janet is an avid gardener, and her affinity with the earth, light and the seasons is threaded throughout her work.
