THE SWIMMER
Stroke over stroke,
Kick after kick,
Like a fish in the water I glide.
The gentle waves roll with me,
As I swim to the other side.
Suddenly a tickle I feel beneath the water.
Is it a friend or foe?
But my goal’s in sight as I head to shore,
To complete my daily task.
Something in the lake is following me,
But I don’t need to know,
Since the water’s warm and the sun is high,
And I think I’m almost home.
Could it be a stick,
Or maybe just a weed,
Or is it a monster eel?
So I look below and what do I see?
A friendly fish like me!
