As the Sun sets, patterns of stars (and sometimes planets which are also orbiting our Sun) begin to be visible against the darkening sky. Virtually all human civilizations have taken these patterns and created imaginary figures in the sky (“constellations”), along with elaborate mythologies. Explorers of the past who travelled large distances north and south used the constellations to navigate. Birds are naturally attuned to daybreak and nightfall, singing to welcome and close each day.
